STILL ANGRY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS

THEWORD07:PEACE

August 24th - August 27th 2007

Inspirational Weekend in Gatehouse
Triumphant. Inspirational. Amazing. These were some of the words being used around Gatehouse of Fleet when four internationally celebrated poets Adrian Mitchell, Michael Horovitz, Bernard Kops and Pete Brown descended on the town as part of THEWORD07 PEACE – Scotland’s first themed literary event. For a full review of the weekend, click here.

The Bakehouse is the fastest growing arts venue in SW Scotland. In its two year life it has hosted best selling novelists, high profile actors, thinkers and playwrights including Fawlty Towers star, Prunella Scales, poet and philosopher Kenneth White, Edinburgh’s First Poet Laureate Stewart Conn, playwright Bernard Kops, Samuel Beckett’s publisher John Calder, Whitbread Prize Winner Diana Hendry and TS Eliot Award winning poet Don Paterson and many more. It is the home of Scotland longest running literary magazine Markings (currently featured in Times Online) and has become a thriving resource for the region. It offers high quality visual art and entertainment for locals and visitors on a regular basis.
